The chase

With its hypnotic beady-eyed stare
The heron issued a dare
To its observer
A contest to compare each other’s fervor
In the hunt for the prey
Under the skies turning gray
To capture the creature
That slyly played along
And the chase lasted long
As the night faded into dawn
They waited with their claws drawn
Yet it eluded their grasp
The venomous asp…
Slipping away into the wild yonder
Leaving the bewildered two in a state of wonder
