Epitome of stillness

Its antennae tipped with an alluring blue,
quiver in anticipation new,
as it senses nearby an adventure.
So draping closely its crimson fur,
like a seasoned opera star it sings,
dramatically unfurling its dark wings,
marked generously with cream and red.
It silently absorbs the words unsaid,
its extraordinary lens of azure,
scanning the sheer yonder
for that merest hint of danger.
Its willowy legs lightly balanced on a leaf
for a moment ever so brief
reveal its true essence…
the very epitome of stillness,
before alighting and riding on the breeze,
weaving through the foliage so dense
while bidding a colorful adieu
and flitting out of view.
