The egret waits…

The egret waits without moving,
Perched calmly one morning,
Luminous and sure,
Sinister and deadly its lure,
Silently stalking its prey,
Tracking its every move for work or play,
With a laser glance,
And takes no chance,
As it eyes the denizens of the pond,
Some flip-flopping around,
The others resting on the frond,
Its mind ticking to carefully plan and plot,
To gobble up the pond’s entire lot…
