Wonder cherries

T’is the season of wonder cherries!
These tiny berries no larger than peppercorns, transform from bright and transculent green to an inky blue-black with a polished cover as they ripen. While the unripe berries can be cooked along with the leaves and consumed, the ripe berries can be enjoyed as-is after a gentle spray wash with fresh water. Juicy with a mildly sweet and tangy flavour the ripe berries hit the right notes with a vague after-taste. Considered to have various health benefits too, this is a plant one might find in family recipes that have been passed down generations.
